Woolford & John
Julian Woolford and Richard John met in Australia sometime last century and started writing musicals together. Among their shows are 'The Railway Children', 'Wind In The Willows', 'The Teddy Bears’ Picnic', 'Comrade Rockstar' and 'The Devil's Advocate'. ‘The Railway Children' premiered at Sevenoaks Playhouse, is published by Samuel French, with a cast album on the JAY label and has had more than 100 productions right across the world, including Australia, New Zealand, the USA
and Bermuda.
Both ‘The Railway Children’ and their children’s musical ‘The Teddy Bears’ Picnic’ have had national tours, Their first musical, 'Wind In The Willows' premiered at
Sevenoaks and will have a new production at Taunton Brewhouse for Christmas 2020. They wrote the online musical ‘Terminal Four Play’ as part of the Theatre
503 Urban Scrawl project, and it later played at the Latitude Festival.
Their new version of Lionel Bart’s ‘Twang!!’ played at the Union Theatre and is published by MTI and they wrote four songs for the English Theatre of Hamburg’s production of ‘The Importance Of Being Earnest’. Their new musicals, ‘Comrade Rockstar’ about the life of Dean Reed and ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ based on the novel and movie starring Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino are in pre-production and they are currently working on a new musical ‘Logical Family’.
Julian is Head of Musical Theatre at GSA and the author of ‘How Musicals Work’. He has written many plays which have been produced worldwide. Richard is currently musical director of Sting’s ‘The Last Ship’.
