Emily Rose Simons
Emily Rose Simons is a London based musical theatre writer. She’s odd for reasons no one quite understands, but her strong melodies and song structure makes up for it. She has a BA and MA in Music from Bristol University – where she spent most of her time conducting and arranging barbershop choirs, a comedic background from her years performing stand up and musical comedy around the UK and an understanding of the musical theatre from Book Music Lyrics in London and the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU.
She has been an intern at New York Musicals Festival, The Tank NYC, an apprentice of CRY HAVOC Company and is currently a resident artist of The Skeleton Rep, a member of Mercury Musical Development’s Advance Lab and alum of ALP’s Signal Concerts. Her style is quirky and yet strikes deep universal emotions. She naturally gravitates to female driven stories, queerness, Judaism, magic and fairytales and... vaginas/things that make nice people blush. Lately she’s had a fascination of looking into the void of existence – but haven’t we all?
Her ongoing projects (with breathtakingly brilliant collaborators) include: The Inconvenient Miracle (Teenager pregnant with the child of God), The Repatriot (Adult woman can’t get out of childhood bed), The F*ck Am I Doing? (obligatory Millennial Song Cycle), Rebecca and Lily (School nerd and school bully waiting for their abortions), Not Yet Titled Golem Show (The Golem of Prague retold in 1980s America from the perspective of the Golem).

"Benjamin Button. He's not a writer - he's the main character in a musical written by Jethro Compton and Darren Clark. Watching it was gorgeous and exhilarating, but the melodies and emotions from it echo in me months and months later -even though I was on a very awkward date that night."
