BEN GLASSTONE
Ben is a composer, lyricist and theatre-maker. His music and lyrics (for over thirty professional productions) includes work for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Hampstead Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith, Royal and Derngate and many more.
Ben has worked as composer, writer and director on family shows for theatres such as Polka, Tricycle, Unicorn and Little Angel, with whom he is a very regular collaborator. In 2005 Little Angel produced his acclaimed musical The Mouse Queen in 2005 (co-written with Tim Kane), which toured to the New Victory in New York and off-West End in London. Other music and lyrics for Little Angel include: Alice in Wonderland, The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me, Fantastic Mr Fox (six national tours) and The Night Before Christmas.
Ben is the artistic director of MONSTRO theatre, whose recent show Book Story did three Arts Council funded tours. He has also led community musical theatre projects for the Royal Opera House, BBC, Camden Roundhouse, Opera North and others. Ben was awarded the 2017 Stiles and Drewe mentorship prize for his musical Reanimator and won runner-up Stiles and Drewe Best Song prize in 2019 (with Poppy Burton-Morgan) for their song Waiting to Begin from The Rhythmics, a musical telling the story of Manchester’s premier all-male rhythmic gymnastics performance ensemble. The Rhythmics is heading for its first production in 2021 and the cast album will be released in Summer 2020. MONSTRO’s latest production The King of Nothing, will be touring from 2021.
