BELLMAN & BIRD
Rachel Bellman and Josh Bird are a London-based musical theatre writing team. Their work includes: Game Theory, in development with Perfect Pitch and performed as part of The Lowry’s Rewrites Festival in 2021; So-Called Gen Z produced at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe by PQA Sutton; and Elf Spies and The Knights Before Christmas, two mini-musicals for children commissioned and licensed by Perfect Pitch. Their work has been developed at the Birmingham Hippodrome, ArtsEd, the MTA and University of Winchester. Their songs have been performed in the Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Prize, SIGNAL, Page to Stage Gala Concert and at The Other Palace.
Rachel is a book writer, lyricist and playwright. Her other writing includes: The Dickens Girls, which won the BYMT New Music Theatre Award and was produced by BYMT at the New Wolsey Theatre in 2019, and Being Brilliant performed at Royal Concert Hall Nottingham in 2017. She is co-author of the musical picture book Barry the Penguin’s Black and White Christmas, and as a playwright has had short plays produced at The Pleasance and JW3. She’s developed her writing through Soho Writers’ Lab, Book Music & Lyrics, and MMD Advanced Writers’ Lab.
Josh is a composer and lyricist. In 2018 he wrote the music and lyrics for Club Wonderland, an immersive musical performed at the Royal & Derngate Theatre. He was the orchestrator for ExtraOrdinary a new musical performed at the University of Central Lancashire in 2017 in association with BBC Children in Need.
